Peter Epstein, Principal
Mr. Peter Epstein has been working in the field of education for over nine years. He holds a Bachelors in Russian Studies and a Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching from Emory University in Atlanta. He has also completed a certificate program in Educational Leadership at Kennesaw State University.
Peter was born in Moscow, Russia, and moved to Atlanta with his parents and siblings when he was 10 years old. He began his educational career by teaching Latin at a local private school, leading ESOL classes for a social services organization, and working as an instructor with international companies in Moscow. After receiving his State of GA teaching certificate, he became part of a middle school team that implemented an existing Expeditionary Learning and Outward Bound curriculum in a charter school in Alpharetta.
Peter has held teaching and leadership positions in a private, public, and charter schools. His roles included leading a National Junior Society, coaching a School Debate Team, and heading up an Environmental Club that promoted civic responsibility to students.
Immediately prior to ADS, Peter was an Education Program Manager at New American Pathways, one of the largest refugee resettlement agencies in Georgia. In this capacity, Peter worked with students who recently arrived in the U.S. from all over the world. A highlight of this period was becoming the recipient of a competitive Dollar General Literacy Award in March of 2015. Mr. Epstein's program was chosen from over 300 Youth Literacy programs nationally for its focus and impact on students’ literacy skills.
Peter has traveled extensively around the world and has visited Greece several times, including two visits to Mount Athos. His hobbies include jogging, swimming, traveling, and camping. He is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the ADS family and enjoys working with the staff and students on growing and developing the school.
Joanna Gordon, Administrative Assistant
Joanna Gordon is originally from Pickerington, Ohio and attended Ohio University where she earned a B.S. in Child and Family Studies. She began her career in Columbus, OH at Hannah Neil Center working in the community as a Wrap Around Therapist for disadvantaged children. Joanna joined ADS in 2012 and has loved watching not only the children grow, but how much the school has grown as well. Joanna lives in Atlanta with her husband, Sven, and her two sons, Jack and Max.
