Janet Brown, Head of School
Janet Brown brings over 25 years experience teaching kindergarten through eighth grade, and serving in administrative roles to ADS. Janet began her career as a Physical Education and Health teacher in public and parochial schools. She completed her M. Ed. in Leadership and Supervision in 2004. Soon after, Janet saw a need for experience teaching in a regular classroom before becoming a school administrator. She gained her Early Childhood Certificate in 2004 and began teaching second grade. In 2007 she became the Curriculum Director at Christ the King School. After seven years developing and implementing curriculum and supervising teachers, she moved to The Schenck School to become the Associate Head of School. During her tenure at Schenck, Janet earned her certification in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators at the Associate Level as well the completion of over 20 hours of Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Math training.
Janet returned to the classroom in 2016 as a first grade teacher at Annunciation Day School and was named Head of School in May of 2018. She is delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead the vibrant, faith-filled community of learners at ADS!
When Janet is not at school, she enjoys hiking, gardening, reading, playing tennis and taking exercise classes. She has been married for 35 years to her husband, Chris. Their son, Gavin, an alumnus of St. Pius X and Georgia Southern University, and lives in Atlanta. They have two very energetic pups named Sissy and Buster.
Joanna Gordon, Office Administrator
Joanna Gordon is originally from Pickerington, Ohio and attended Ohio University where she earned a B.S. in Child and Family Studies. She began her career in Columbus, OH at Hannah Neil Center working in the community as a Wrap Around Therapist for disadvantaged children. Joanna joined ADS in 2012 and has loved watching not only the children grow, but how much the school has grown as well. Joanna lives in Atlanta with her husband Sven and their two sons, Jack and Max.
Sophia P. Tsiotsias, Communications, Development & Athletic Director
Sophia Tsiotsias is originally from Rochester, N.Y. but was raised in Atlanta where she received her Bachelor's in Marketing from Georgia State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She comes to us from CNN and Cartoon Network where she held the position of Senior Licensing & Marketing Manager for 10 years. In 2016, she joined ADS as our Marketing Manager and Pre-School assistant teacher for the Two's class. Although she loved the classroom setting, she now leads all our marketing, fundraising and external communication efforts. She also developed our first after school sports program in 2017 including Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball & Soccer where ADS competes against other local private schools. Her love and dedication for ADS shows as she has been instrumental in the growth and development of our school.
Sophia has been a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral since childhood where ADS serves as a ministry and extension of the church. She has served in various youth and adult church organizations including Co-President of GOYA, Maids of Athena and Daughters of Penelope. She also served as one of the lead marketing representatives for the church's largest fundraiser, the Atlanta Greek Festival. She loves spending time and traveling with her husband and enjoys cooking, playing sports and volunteering in various non-profits.
